Still struggling to understand how an aquarium store can set such a bad example on how to care for fish. The beta fish were living in 1L tanks, some even with half of the tank filled (0,5L!). This of course directly affects their wellbeing and causes obvious health issues in short twrm (when you buy them) but most importantly is a complete threat to animal welfare. Don’t be misguided by the fact they are fish, betas are especially intelligent and need a minimum of 20L to live healthily and without the stress inflicted by a small aquarium. All of them looked lethargic. Not only that, but this practise is recommended by the store as seen by the selling of 2L aquariums to keep the beta fish at home. It is your responsibility as professionals to make sure people care for these animals at home! Things like this could also be seen in bigger fish kept in very small aquariums for their size: the fish cannot swim forward and can barely turn without bumping to eachother. I wouldn’t wish such an entrapment upon my worse enemy: why do we do that to animals then? I really hope this makes the store owners change the keeping conditions of these fish. If other stores do the same: that is no excuse. You can do better.
