A magical oasis in a roadless country. The Hållfjällets tourist station has been renovated and offers a high-end experience without equal in the area. You can only get here on skis or by snowmobile, see below for tour tips. Once there, the building is located on the edge of the mountain with a magnificent view of the mountain world. Stepping into the cabin is a wonderful contrast. The warmth by the fire, the comfort of the mysloft, the interior in general and the personal welcome are all part of a well-thought-out concept where you are taken care of in a relaxed and personal way. You can relax in a nice corner with a mountain view, hang out with the chefs in the kitchen over a cup of coffee by the wood-burning oven, take a sauna, snack on some smaller snacks from the menu (the white capri with kohlrabi in rhubarb acid was super delicious with a glass of bubbly) or just take a little tour of discovery and look at the nice cabin details. The rooms are small and cozy with updated comfort in decorated bunk beds from the 40s (four-bed or two-bed rooms). The standard is very simple but with a luxurious feel. Shared toilet and shower are in the corridor. In the evening, a 4-course meal of locally produced food is served, plus something sweet with coffee. Much has been grown in Ottsjö and stored or preserved, i.e. produced from plant to plate by the business. It is well composed of earthy, rich flavors with finesse, and it is very fun to hear about how different components have been made. The cuisine is good, but the wine matching is even better. The wine cellar has a lot to choose from and everything we have been offered has been a taste experience in itself for both food and snacks. If space allows, you can book the dinner without an overnight stay (1400 SEK per person for us) and ski back to the car in the northern lights. It is not a place for the thin wallet. If it tastes good, it costs, but damn what a fantastic end to our day in the mountains. Trip tip: For those who don't ski, you can book a snowmobile tour via, for example, Åreguiderna and in this way get from Åre village to Hållfjället tourist station. On skis, the closest and easiest way is from Ottsjö. For example, turn up towards the plateau and park the car at the trail start (on the right side after Ottsjö mountain village). Approximately 7 km on groomed trails in flat terrain is beginner skiing with nice views. Around a mile and more hilly, the start is in Edsåsdalen. Park by the road after Köja mountain hotel, go down the barnbacken and step on the electric light trail and then follow a pleasant climb up towards Hållfjället where there is a slightly steeper climb right at the end to super views. Groomed, wide trails all the way here too. The third and longest option is to walk from Trillervallen and then either on the Ottsjö side via the plateau or via Grofjället take a day trip over to Hållfjällets. Regardless of Edsåsdalen, Ottsjö or Trillervallen you can choose freely between classic, skate or touring skis. We did a full day tour: Ottsjö-Yttervallen-Grofjället-Edsåsdalen (with lunch at Köja mountain hotel) - Hållfjället (with four-course dinner as above) - northern lights tour back to Ottsjö, a total of maybe 38 km of active skiing, about 6.5 hours.
