Romanäs Sanatorium has an interesting history that is quite typical for this type of facility in Europe. It was founded in 1905 in Sweden, near the town of Tranås. The sanatorium was built as a treatment facility for tuberculosis, a disease that was a major health problem at the time. The sanatorium was designed with the aim of offering patients the best possible conditions for recovery. It was located in a beautiful, forested environment, far from the noise of the city, which was considered to support the treatment by offering clean air and a quiet environment. At the time, such conditions were believed to be crucial for the recovery of patients with tuberculosis. During the 1920s and 1930s, Romanäs Sanatorium experienced its heyday. Many patients came there, not only from Sweden, but also from other European countries. The sanatorium had well-equipped rooms, therapy rooms and rehabilitation facilities, as well as beautiful gardens where patients could walk and rest. However, with medical advances and the introduction of antibiotics, the treatment of tuberculosis improved significantly, and the need for such sanatoriums began to decrease. In the 1950s, the Romanäs sanatorium began to lose its importance and was finally closed in the 1960s. Nowadays, the sanatorium building is used for various purposes, although its original function has long since disappeared. Despite this, the Romanäs sanatorium remains an interesting place, reminiscent of a time when the treatment of tuberculosis was one of the greatest challenges in medicine. It is also a testimony to changes in public health and medical developments in the 20th century.

En mycket spännande plats. En stor, obebodd men mycket välskött och charmig egendom. En kort promenad genom skogen till stranden. Platsen påminner lite om något ur filmen "The Shining", baserad på S. Kings roman.
