Márkanbáiki - Sámi open-air museum

We went in February and it was very cold. This was absolutely gorgeous and such an authentic experience! You get to learn alot about the history and culture of the Sami people. You also get up close with the reindeer and are able to feed them which was easily the highlight of our trip, they are such gentle, beautiful creatures. ​After spending time outside, there is a cosy lodge which has a warm atmosphere, and the food and hot chocolate were delicious and really hit the spot. It’s the perfect way to defrost and soak in the Sámi culture. ​The toilets are currently in a portacabin. They’re functional, but it’s a bit of a contrast to the beautiful lodge, so just keep that in mind for your visit! ​Overall, a magical must-do if you're in the area.

If you want to meet reindeers and learn about Sami culture then it’s a perfect place! We booked the Lip lip tour and had actually no expectations but it was awesome! Our guide Anton was very nice guy and was able to answer almost every question we asked, can recommend him! We went to meet reindeers, go on a walk with one and have a great time at a campfire in the middle of the forest. Very cozy! We got to barrow clothes for the trip. A little bit on the pricey side ( 2000kr ) for Lip lip but I still think it was worth it, reindeers are amazing!!!

Definitely recommend this experience. It was fascinating learning all about Sami way of life and their culture. We also paid to feed the reindeer who were very persistent but it was a great laugh and added to the experience. We finished the experience with a deluxe hot chocolate around the fire at the end to warm up. A must visit if you are in the area.
