Vet inte om mejeriet på Bergnäset fortfarande är igång eller om det har lagts ner. Det har ju pratats i flera år om att så skulle ske, och att all produktion skulle flyttas till Umeå där man satsat på investeringar vilket man inte har gjort …

I don't know if the dairy at Bergnäset is still running or if it has been closed down. There has been talk for several years that this would happen, and that all production would be moved to Umeå where they have invested, which has not been done in Luleå. When the decision became official, not only I - but also many others - felt that it was a great betrayal of us who almost 100% choose Norrmejerier's products every time we shop. My first thought was to stop buying their products, but then all the hardworking dairy farmers who work every day to ensure that we customers have access to dairy products made from local milk will be affected. Unfortunately, we can only bite the bullet and continue to buy Norrmejerier's products - despite the move to Umeå. This should mean a large climate footprint, but perhaps the management wants to keep that quiet. I saw in the newspaper that the Polish Polmlek Group has shown interest in buying the dairy at Bergnäset, but the board and management seem to be moderately interested in a sale. That can be understood to some extent. Then there will be competition for the milk and Polmlek Group certainly has greater financial resources than Norrmejerier. The living will see, but I guess it will probably not be a deal. However, continue to buy Norrmejerier's products if you have the opportunity to do so. Over the past ten years, the number of dairy farmers in Norrbotten has halved. Fewer and fewer farmers are investing in milk production. This ultimately leads to an unsustainable situation. Not least for the entire community. Today, there are apparently 48 farms in the county that are engaged in milk production. How many of these will be left in another ten years? Today's farmers are fighting tooth and nail to survive. Everything needed for operation is becoming increasingly expensive, and the payment they receive for their work is not keeping up with the pace. Politicians don't seem to care much about helping either. Maybe some vague promises will come during election time. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
