2025-11-05: Security update locked out users from the Parakey app. Users were forced out and couldn't log back in despite password resets. Result: locked out of my home until someone opened the gate from the inside. The CEO announced on the website that the bug had occurred earlier in the evening and had been fixed after 5:15 PM. At 5:55 PM when I got home, the problem was still there. Either the bug hadn't been fixed or it had reoccurred without the company noticing. The basic problem is the lack of a physical backup solution. No RFID tag or key is offered. Identical complaints from 2022 show users being locked out when their phone was dropped, broken, or the battery ran out. No action has been taken. The design has a single source of failure: if the phone or app doesn't work, you're locked out of your home. The update was distributed without adequate testing, which meant a critical bug reached production. A company that manages residential access must have a physical backup method (industry standard), gradual rollout of critical updates and immediate recovery in case of failure. This is a fundamental design flaw in a security-critical product. Property owners and condominium associations: require a physical backup solution before accepting this system. 2025-11-06: Parakey responds: "Hi Magnus, We are sorry that you were affected by this and we sincerely apologize. As a result of the major security update we implemented yesterday, you and approximately 1% of our users experienced problems logging into the app and using Parakey between approximately 3:15 PM - 5:15 PM, as well as difficulties changing your password. We apologize again for this and if you are still experiencing problems, please contact us at support@parakey.co." My response: Your statement that the issue was resolved by 17:15 is incorrect. I was locked out at 17:55, 40 minutes after your claimed resolution time. Either the problem was not actually resolved, it recurred without your monitoring detecting it, or your incident timeline is inaccurate. This raises serious questions about your incident response capabilities and monitoring systems for a product controlling physical access to homes. The core issue remains: no physical backup option (RFID/key) exists. A security-critical product with a single point of failure is fundamentally flawed design, regardless of incident frequency.
