Naturum Fulufjället is truly a white paradise in winter. No matter how much you talk about the beauty of its snowy landscapes, mountains, and rolling hills, it’s never enough. It’s the kind of trip you don’t want to end, full of experiences you wish everyone could have. Cozy forest cabins, countless hiking trails, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, and even the world’s oldest tree, each one alone could be a reason to travel here. Having all of this gathered in one protected national park is simply amazing. After nearly 10 hours of driving through cold and snowy weather, I finally arrived and enjoyed every moment in this untouched nature. I will definitely come back again. ❄️🌲
We stayed one night at Fulufjällsgården near Särna in the beautiful Mörkret area, and it was a truly cozy and memorable experience. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, spending the evening by the fireplace, watching TV and enjoying the Swedish singing competition Melodifestivalen, made the night extra special. Outside it was snowy and cold, but coming back to a quiet, peaceful place and taking a hot shower felt amazing. The staff member on duty was calm, friendly, and quietly taking care of everything, which added to the relaxed feeling of the stay. In the morning, we were treated to a lovely and complete breakfast with delicious fresh bread,a perfect ending to our stay. Before leaving, we also bought some beautiful souvenirs, which felt like a nice final touch. We then drove home through snowy roads and –10°C weather, and even now, we still think fondly of this cozy stay. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a warm, peaceful place in the mountains. ❄️🔥

Visiting Njupeskär in winter was an emotional and unforgettable experience. On a quiet day with very few visitors, the waterfall stood completely frozen, embraced by deep silence and surrounded by snow-covered trees. With a total height of around 93 meters, Njupeskär remains powerful and majestic even when frozen solid. The surrounding white forest and elevated landscape created an almost enclosing sense of calm ,a place where nature feels untouched and time seems to pause. Witnessing this frozen waterfall in such stillness was deeply moving and incredibly enjoyable. A pure winter moment, filled with serenity, beauty, and a quiet sense of awe.

We stopped at Rastplats Isaberg on a warm summer day and it turned out to be a great little break for the whole family. The lake is calm and really inviting for a swim, and there’s even a small water slide that the kids loved. We also tried the pedal boats, which was a fun and relaxing way to enjoy the water. There are plenty of picnic spots and benches, and everything felt clean and well-maintained. It’s right next to Isaberg Mountain Resort, so it’s easy to combine with other outdoor activities. Parking was smooth and the first hour was free, which was a nice bonus.
After passing through the northern residential areas of Kungälv and turning left onto a narrow road through the golf course meadows, we followed the road all the way to its end. Just by a few small cabins, there’s space to park around 4–5 cars. From the parking spot, you can already hear the sound of the waterfall. You walk about 50 meters back along the road, then turn right into a narrow forest path. After another 50 meters, the beautiful Lysegårdens Waterfall suddenly appears in front of you, a serene and hidden gem surrounded by rich woodland and mossy rocks. This about 40 meter waterfall is one of the highest in western Sweden, flowing from the Vallerån stream through a lush nature reserve. The trail is short and easy, making it a perfect stop for families or anyone looking for a peaceful nature escape. It’s especially lovely in the afternoon light, when mist and sunlight create soft rainbows at the base. A magical, quiet place not far from the city. Highly recommended!

After about ten minutes of driving from Vänersborg along a scenic road, you’ll arrive at the edge of a residential area where a small parking lot with space for around ten cars is located. From there, a pleasant 10minute walk takes you along a charming path with forest on one side and open fields on the other, leading to the area in front of the waterfall. This spot is a quiet and beautiful place, perfect for spending time with family and children. There are facilities for grilling, wooden benches and tables, and open space where kids can explore and play , everything you need for a short, family, friendly nature outing. The view of the rocky cliffs and the waterfall , about 10 meters wide and around 15 meters high at its tallest point , is truly refreshing and scenic. An experienced rock climber might be able to climb higher beside the waterfall with caution and enjoy a different perspective of the area.Overall, this is a very charming and worthwhile destination.
After visiting the beautiful Elgåfossen waterfall, we continued our journey with a 30 km drive and stopped for lunch at the Tanum shopping area. From there, it was just another 5 km to reach one of Sweden’s true historical gems: the Tanum World Heritage Site and Vitlycke Museum. Unfortunately, we arrived just after the museum had closed for the day at 4 PM, so we couldn’t go inside. But luckily, several of the ancient rock carving sites are located outdoors, on the hillside overlooking the museum. We followed short trails through the forest, each just a few minutes’ walk apart, and visited six fascinating sites. These rock carvings are incredibly interesting and date back to the Bronze Age, around 3,000 years ago. They include depictions of people, animals, rituals, and boats. In fact, while looking at one of the carvings, I suddenly realized where the design on the Swedish 50kronor banknote comes from , it’s taken directly from one of these ancient boat carvings! That little discovery added a whole new layer of connection to the place. It’s easy to imagine that thousands of years ago, when the landscape was more open and less covered in vegetation, these carvings were more visible and widespread. Today, many may still be hidden beneath soil, moss, or lichen. Overall, visiting this mysterious and ancient place left a deep impression, a strange and powerful feeling, as if walking through whispers from the past. A must-visit for anyone who loves history, nature, or simply discovering the unexpected.
A hidden gem just 30 km south east of Malmö. Torup Castle is such a peaceful and beautiful spot to visit. Getting there is part of the charm , you drive through wide open fields, quiet farmlands, and the calm little town of Bara. Once you arrive, you’re greeted by a lovely old castle surrounded by nature. The area is quiet and relaxing, with a great mix of history and greenery. You’ll find walking trails of all kinds, perfect for a short stroll or a longer hike through the forest. There’s a cozy little shop and café nearby, good public transport access, and plenty of parking, too. What makes this place special is the feeling , like you’ve stepped back in time, but with all the calm and beauty of nature around you. It’s a great spot for a day trip if you’re in southern Sweden.
