Came here twice when we stayed in the area for a few days. It's a really well-maintained McD with some tables outside (in case you arrive with a dog - like us) with some parking lot views. Staff was friendly and our food arrived pretty fast. Prices fair and there's also free WiFi. Burger quality was good, meat was tasty. Fries were still hot and crispy. All in all a solid McD, perfect after or before you do your shopping at this here mall.
During our stay in Öland we always came here for our shopping. It's just beside the main road and was only a few hundred meters from our vacation rental. It's not the biggest ICA, but really had a good selection. Fruit, veggies and also some nice cuts of meat. All for the usual fair prices. Staff was friendly as well. There are enough parking spaces right out front and free WiFi as well. A good choice. For your everyday groceries all you need.
After visiting the Bohus Fästning and a quick walk we still had some time left and felt like more walking. This Nature Reserve is just a few minutes from town and offers wonderful nature and forests with only few visitors (at least in summer). Parking is plenty, right by the small lake and free. There are three official trails circling around the lake. One was less than 1km, the other one a bit less than 3km and another one 5+km. Our dog and us followed the medium trail. A wonderful walk around the lake (but not right by it). Through a beautiful and quiet forest. The trail was well marked and is suited for almost everybody, it's an easy walk and pretty flat. At the lake there are several picknick spots as well as a restaurant with a big playground (and free bathrooms). It's a real charming spot so close to town. We were suprised not more visitors were around on that summer day. Definitely worth checking out.
Felt hungry on the way back to our vacation home when we passed this place. Located on a busy main road / intersection it's hard to miss. Plenty of tables inside and a good numbers outside. We took some seats on an outside table. Weather was nice - even though the view not so much. Ordered some wings, onions rings, a cheeseburger and some fries. All items were fine - we've visited other branches before and knew what's coming. So no disappointment there. Decent food - fair prices. Only two things: The cheese could've been a bit more melted, was quite cold. And the outside tables were really pretty dirty. Besides that a fine lunch. Fast food - but pretty good.
Came back from amazing Rotsidan and felt hungry. We passed this place on the way in, so we decided to give it a try on the way back. We took a seat outside on the front porch where our dog was welcome as well. We ordered a burger with fries and a Cordon Bleu. Both items were really good. Beef patty was nice and bigger then the burger buns. A good thing! Fries were hot and crispy. Surprisingly good was the Cordon Bleu. Good meat quality and nice cheese. On the side potatoes, which were also nice and crispy, tender and soft inside. Salad on the side. A real positive surprise here next to the main road. Good food, fair prices and friendly staff.
What a wonderful hike. We stayed just a few minutes away from this wonderful National Park. We entered from the south with its huge parking lot, which was almost full on that day (but free of charge). There are some good and useful information signs just at the entrance and a handful of (smelly) bathrooms. And pretty much your first and last chance to get rid of your garbage. We followed the well marked Höga Kustenleden trail up to Slåttdalsskrevan, the famous crevice which cuts through the mountain for about 200m. The trail itself ist pretty flat but with some steep stairs / sections once in a while. Some parts you'll walk on wooden panels/boards. But it's nowhere near wheelchair or stroller accessable. Good hiking boots are a must, since it can be wet and damp even on a dry summer day. Some sections of the trail are covered with stones in several sizes, so bring a good balance with. We traveled with our Engllish Bulldog and she made it to Slåttdalsskrevan and back, even had fun doing so (into the Slåttdalsskrevan I went alone though, the climb was to high and steep). The trail mostly leads you through the forest, so there's not much of a view. But the nature is amazing, especially when the forest opens up a bit and the rugged and foggy landscape shows itself. Even though it's a well visited park (free of charge) it never felt crowded. It's just you and the nature. And it's not a too tough hike, but bring some water anyways and clothes to change afterwards. A fantastic park and very much one of the highlights we've visited on our Sweden Road Trip.
Came in here quite hungry after a long hike. Parking is at the street or on the lot just next to the restaurant. Tables and a bathroom inside, but since it was nice weather we took a table outside. Ordered two meals (Burger and fries) and some ice cream. The patties were nicely grilled and the whole burger fresh and tasty. The fries were quite good - some were a bit soft though. Ice Cream was very good. Prices are fair and staff was friendly. It's a chain restaurant, but it's a pretty good one. It's fast food, so don't expect too much of it. But it is good for what it is. We liked it.
If you want to hike along the wonderful Gausjosjö Sameviste Trail, then this parking lot is the best option to drop your car. It's a bit difficult to find, but quite close to the Tourist information at the Bla Vägen Highway. The lot only holds maybe up to 8-10 cars. There's a toilet a bit further away as well. It's not paved here, but the spot itself is fine. Might put some people off, because it looks a bit deserted, but no worries, there's always some hikers around, your car will be safe. The trail itself just starts down at the lake. A beautiful hidden gem.
This is a fine Systembolaget, located in the middle of dozens of other shops and stores. Parking is easy and plenty. If you've seen one Systembolaget, you know what to expect (except they vary in sizes). This one here has a good size and got most things we looked for. Some beer, some wine, some cider (Rekorderlig Lime/Strawberry is great). Only the "Tomassi Amarone" we looked for wasn't available. Apart from that a good store with friendly and helpful staff.
We were driving for a while already, heading north. This was one of the first gas stations we've seen for hours, so we headed in to gas up and grab some lunch. Circle K's are mostly consistent when it comes about gas prices and quality. And that was the case here as well. After filling up the gas tank (and a quick visit to the bathroom) we ordered some Jalapeno Hot Dogs. Really good stuff and they are indeed spicy. A good choice. All in all another good visit at Circle K.
We were staying in the countryside for a few nights a few about half an hour away. This Coop (and the other stores here) were the best shopping options around and easy accessible from the Highway. It's even one of the very top Coop stores we've visited on this Road Trip. Open daily from 8-22 with everything you need. Fish, meat, veggies and fruit. Any other grocery items you need from bread, rice, pasta etc. Also a big section with household products, a big recycling section and a bunch of good bathrooms. Prices - as usual - are fair and their products of good quality.
We stayed in the area for a few days. On the arrival day we've checked out this shop. It was fine, had the basic groceries we needed. But just not much of a selection of it. Understandable, since we're quite in the northern countryside. But surely not the best Coop we've been at. The other days we headed across the street to the rival store with three letters....which was the better option.
We stayed in the area for four nights. About 30' away this was by far the best option for shopping groceries. Lots of other stores (and a Systembolaget) are just next to it. It's a big Coop and has got everything you need. All your food groceries, household products, BBQ and Garden section, lots of meat and fish and a big recycling area. A bunch of ATMs as well (and they let you take quite a good amount of money compared to some banks). Products are nice and fresh, fair priced and the staff was really helpful and friendly. One of the very good Coops we've visited on our Sweden Road Trip. Parking right in front is plenty.
After a long drive heading north this was one of the first fast food joints we've encountered. Feeling quite hungry we gave it a shot. This is a smaller chain which can be found mostly at gas stations. The staff here was very friendly and the food was really freshly prepared. A good number of tables are inside, but there's also a nice porch outside with more tables (which we chose). We ordered a bag of wings, a Burger with fries and Onion rings. Some soda with. Everything was hot and with good flavours. Didn't expect this good quality from an unplanned roadside stop. A positive suprise. Nice staff - good food and for about 20 bucks fairly priced.
There's not many options to buy some alcohol in this area. Even this one was a good hour away from the place we've stayed a few days. It is a pretty small store, but has of course some wine, beer, cider etc. But just not that much of a selection. We wanted some more upscale wine to celebrate, but there's wasn't much choice, didn't have what we looked for. We still stocked up on our wine and beer, but not exactly on what we looked for. Prices are fair as usual and staff was friendly.
With 628m this is Scandinavias longest pier. And it is quite an impressive sight. Just behind the Train Station the long wooden panels lead out onto Lake Siljan. At several spots on the pier you can take a few steps down, closer to the water. Originally meant for smaller boats to dock it also makes a very nice picknick break spot (as many locals do). At the end of the pier there's a generous area with some trees, green and a good number of benches to relax. It's a really lovely spot and a nice little stroll. Surely one of the must-do's when around Lake Siljan. We loved it. And be sure not to miss out on the compact but very charming center of Rättvik around Storgatan.
After strolling around in Mora (Kyrkogatan) we had lunch and headed to the lakefront. And what a beautiful lakefront this is. It was summer and high season but still incredibly few visitors. Felt like we had the place for ourselves. There's a nice walking path. On the south end there's a nice park/lawn where you can relax or you could head to the northern end and chill out on the surprisingly lovely beach there. We relaxed a bit somewhere between, because with our dog we couldn't go to the beach. But in other places she was allowed to take a dip in the water, which was nice. Lake Siljan is a fantastic lake and the views nothing short of amazing. If you need a walk and a bit of quiet time, then you should head to the lakefront for a stroll. A great spot.
Mora has a lovely location between Orsajön and Siljan. Besides a very nice waterfront with nice walks it also offers a lovely walking street: Kyrkogatan. Recently redone and renovated it is a lovely little stroll. And traffic free. Chain and independent stores line the streets. And numerous cafés and restaurants as well (check out the Mora Kaffestuga at the northern end). For your groceries there's a Lidl, an ICA and a Systembolaget. It's a lovely little street, makes - together with the waterfront - a nice day trip. Lovely town and worth the trip.
This pier is pretty empty and pretty overlooked - at least by the tourist crowds. There are a bunch of camping spots and a parking lot. The pier has a nice size and was rebuilt not long ago. A nice building with some informative plates sit on the end of the pier. It's a quick walk, but you'll be rewarded with nice lake (Siljan) views. A quiet, calm spot. Not many visitors...and we very much enjoyed that. There's also a bunch of tables, if you feel like having a picknick by the lake. A nice little spot. Worth checking out.
Stopped in small but charming Nora on the way up north. This Café here has a nice location down at Norasjön (the lake) with some good views. This place is famous for its ice cream, so if you come for that, be ready to get in line. But we came for a quick and light lunch. Took a table in the lovely green garden next to one of the trees. Dogs are welcome as well. Service was nice and friendly and the food arrived quickly. Food selection here isn't big (it's a café after all) and most items are on the light side. But that's what we were looking for that day anyways. We ordered a ham wrap and a shrimp sandwich. The wrap was good, nice ham and fresh crispy veggies. The shrimp were nice and fresh, but the sandwich a bit on the bland side. But still, it's a nice place to grab a quick bite. Prices are quite fair as well. We liked it.
We were staying in Tjörn for a couple of nights. This restaurant here was a pretty short and nice drive away. Parking at the harbour was full, but there was another lot just a few minutes away by foot. We came on a sunday, so it only opened until 18.00, so we made this an early dinner. Location is beautiful. There's a Bar and lots of tables inside, but on this sunny summer afternoon we took a seat outside of course. Staff was very friendly and helpful and our dog was welcome! We ordered some crab claws/legs, fried fish with sides and the smoked/grilled salmon with sides. The crab was fantastic and for just a few bucks a real steal. The fried fish was fresh, tender and tasty. The salmon was good as well, but might put some people with little seafood/fish experience off, since it had quite a strong flavour (not in a bad way though). The sides with potatoes and salad were a bit on the boring side I have to say. Price for about 80 bucks was ok. All in all a nice place, good fish and great location.
Located in the mall (with a big Coop), this Systembolaget is a pretty good choice. Mid-sized it offers enough selection on beer, cider (Rekorderlig Strawberry/Lime is great) , wine and spirits with helpful and friendly staff. Parking is just out front and plenty. Pretty convenient if you stock up on alcohol for a week or two.
We stayed nearby this area for a couple of days and really felt like walking that day. We parked on Drottninggatan close to the harbourfront. From there we entered the Reserve from the North (near the Marina). As soon as you go around the corner from the Marina you'll be quite surprised. You wouldn't expect such an impressive Reserve so close to a town. It's really just around the corner but feels like another world. The views are amazing and the rocks and rock formations impressive. We brought our dog with (an English Bulldog). She did amazingly well. Just at the very beginning on the Northern Entrance a few steps leading up were too big and steep, so we carried her quick. Later on there's an easy trail leading back to town. Or you can follow a tougher route (sometimes no route at all) leading towards the famous Fyrhuset. We had fun exploring the area as did our dog. Nice views and nature and it was just fun climbing around here. Sometimes taking a break - sitting on some rocks - to take in the amazing landscape. If you only need to park up to 4 hours, then there's a free parking lot just south of the Gullmarsgymnasiet. If you are around this area - even an hour or two away - be sure not to miss out on this terrific Nature Reserve.
This is one of the bigger grocery stores around. Placed in a pretty nice mall with plenty of parking. There's also a Systembolaget next to, which makes this a convenient spot. There's all the products you might need: fruit, veggies, meat, soda and water, rice, pasta, household products etc. Prices are - as usual with Coop - pretty fair and the store looks clean and well. A good choice to stock up on your groceries.
Just a few minutes away from charming Simrishamn you'll find this wonderful beach. A nice, clean, yellow and wide stretch of sand. Close-by there's also a camping and a lido / public bath (with entrance fees). But on a sunny day, there's no reason to there, just stay here at this beautiful beach. Even in summer there weren't that many visitors, so you'll easily find a quiet spot. Parking is to be found right at the southern end (6 hours free), so it's very convenient. What we've learned on that day is, that swedish weather can change within minutes. It was the brightest and sunniest day when a few dark clouds came closer....and the came up fast. Withing minutes we were in the middle of a real rainstorm, which lasted only about 15minutes. Enough to make us soaking wet. From then on we always kept some clothes to change in the car.
Stopped here in Varberg heading North. Our dog and us really needed a walk and this Promenade offers some fantastic strolls with wonderful views and landscapes. Most of the time you share the lane with bikers which are quite high in numbers, but usually there's no problem with passing them. The views here are quite amazing and the rock formations as well. Some picknick spots and sights line the way. And there are also numerous spots to go take a dip in the water (with stairs leading down). We walked much further than we planned to, it was just such an enjoyable walk. Very much worth a visit when around Varberg!
We were staying in Southern Sweden for a few days before heading up north. Looking for a nice daytrip we stumbled upon this charming little town, which was well worth the two-hour drive. The harbour/waterfront is the heart of it along with the Storgatan which runs down to the harbour. Pretty buildings, a quiet and picturesque harbourfront and some nice little restaurants and shops makes this small town a real gem. Easy to walk and only a few minutes away is a real nice sandy beach. Park right at the harbour (3 hour limit) or park a bit further away at the camping/beach where you can get up to 6 hours free parking. Besides the cafés and restaurants there's a real good Grill/Seafood Kiosk at the harbour (Hamngrillen), with good fish items on the menu for little money. Tables out as well. One of the most charming small towns we've visited this summer in Sweden. Loved it.
We've spent 5 weeks in Sweden this summer. Whenever buying alcohol (with more than 3.5%) the Systembolaget was the only choice, since the only one run and approved by the government. That aside I must admit that these stores quite have a good selection of beer, wine and spirits and most prices are really fair. This store here was a bit small though and selection was limited. Staff was friendly and helpful. But just lacks the choice of the bigger shops, but there aren't any around in the area. Also if you really want some upscale wine, we never found them in a Systembolaget. Don't know how locals would get these....well, online probably. But it's an ok store to stock up on some booze.
We stayed in nearby Böste for three nights. This was one of the closer supermarkets. Since Trelleborg has a nice walking street just in front of this shop, we used to come here for our daily groceries. It's an ICA. That means it's a chain, but a fairly good one. Fresh products, nice selection of fruit and veggies as well as meat (at least in the bigger stores). Prices are fair and the staff is friendly. Definitely a good place to stock up on your groceries. There's a parking right next to or you could look for a (free) spot along the street or on the big parking lot on the corner of Nygatan and Olivia Nordgrens Gata.
