The name itself, a direct translation from Swedish, is as endearingly "nice" as the café itself – a sort of generic, polite, English "nice," which paradoxically makes it rather Swedish, I'd say. It truly embodies that quintessential "it's nice" sentiment you'd overhear between two 90-year-old Swedes discussing anything from the weather to... more weather "How was the Nice Valley café?" "Well, it was nice." "That's nice, dear." You get the picture. And indeed, the view? Beautiful! So lovely you almost forget the minor details. One certainly pays a premium for this panorama, and frankly, I don't see much difference from when it was exclusively enjoyed by the local pensioners from the adjacent home – perhaps it's just the added thrill of sharing (?) Now, let's talk about the less picturesque elements. The interior, particularly the ordering queue, offers a rather authentic sauna experience – without the refreshing dip afterward. They don't even put up a measly fan. Come on! It's an environment where the staff, bless their hearts, are clearly doing their utmost in what appears to be a perpetual flatline situation. They're usually quite stressed and seem inexperienced, but hey, they're trying! As for the actual sustenance, the food is, shall we say, uninspired. It's bland, lacking variety, and frankly, quite expensive for what you get. But then again, one must factor in the visual feast outside, right? That wonderful view certainly adds a few kronor to the bill, even if the prawn sandwich doesn't quite live up to it. All in all, if you're looking for a painting of a view sacrificing a bit on the culinary front, Nice Valley is... well, it's nice. Just remember to dress lightly for the queue and manage your expectations for anything beyond the scenery. Note. This is MY experience. Don't take it for scripture. Someone else may not be bothered by the inferno in the que and may enjoy the food immensely. Remember "Taste is like The Back" Swedish saying... Google it.
Hovnäsfärjan är ett anspråkslöst men ändå viktigt historiskt landmärke i denna region. …
The Hovnäs Ferry is a modest yet essential historical landmark in this region. For nearly a century, Hovnäs Ferry has been much more than a way to cross Dalälven (the Dal River), it is a living emblem of regional pride that connects Hovnäs in Dalarna, with Botebo in Västmanland. Its journey began in 1915, with a humble barge, initially capable only of carrying a horse-drawn wagon across the river. In 1924, that simple vessel was replaced with a more modern ferry, paving the way for dedicated car ferry traffic in the area. In 1953, the current ferry was launched with its cheerful yellow hull and a capacity for three standard cars. After the Swedish Road Authority decided in 1986 to shut down the ferry line, the local organization Trelänsleden refused to let the tradition fade taking over almost right away, and in 1987 the ferry was officially named NEDA. Since then, many residents purchase annual subscriptions, to support its upkeep, even if they do not ride frequently. This embodies not only the profound commitment to community, culture, and regional identity, but also demonstrates the nation's dedication to technological advancement and consideration for the environment. Beyond its role as a transport service, Hovnäs Ferry plays a vital role in regional infrastructure and support for local businesses as well as a social meeting place for locals and visitors alike. The route carries traffic from Västmanland County across Dalälven and onward into Färnebofjärden National Park. This makes the ferry the most convenient option for visitors coming from the south, providing access to nature reserves, recreational areas, rental cabins, fishing permits, hiking spots in the scenic surroundings etc. The ferry is running on an on-call basis with no fixed timetable reducing unnecessary trips, minimizing its environmental footprint. A modest little kiosk adjacent to the ferry-landing offers coffee, sandwiches, and ice cream in the tranquil, picturesque setting that feels like a brief pause in time. Despite modern payment options being available, the kiosk remains simple, and minimalistic. There are no complex coffee varieties or overly cheerful staff and effusive greetings. Instead, a stoic, slightly gruff, and perhaps a tad grumpy old Swedish gentleman, provides service with minimal interaction. Moreover, offering the luxury of silence at no cost. This same gentleman is also the ferry operator, guiding the vessel with his no-nonsense, steadfast demeanour and quiet resolve, mirroring the ferry's straightforward operation. His unpretentious, timeless manner is a nod to the northern character, unburdened by fuss or excessive chatter, reflecting the vessel itself. Neda is today the only remaining car ferry route on the Dalälven. In its simplicity and reliability, it continues to weave history, community, and an authentic connection to nature.
The place appears disorganized, with inadequate staffing and employees who lack sufficient training and/or knowledge about retail and service. Most definitely overworked and underpaid, so no blame on the staff. The place is a bit of a mess and most unwelcoming. Not only there. But in every department, allover Stockholm and Västmanland. I hope they start treating their employees better and teach them how to do it.
Mycket trevlig, tålmodig, kompetent och hjälpsam personal gjorde besöket definitivt trevligt. Plus!
Butik i lantlig stil.
Fortfarande generisk. Fortfarande sömnig. fortfarande "Karen State"
En skatt gömd i Stockholm! Underbara sällsynta vinyler och gamla leksaker
Bästa frisören. Bra utbud av djurfoder och godsaker. Hjälpsamma trevliga människor.
