Do you know what really separates building for business from building out of love for your craft? Let me tell you. I am the third owner of a boat that saw the light of day back in 1977, built by Doksta varv. When I bought her once, without knowing anything about the shipyard, I decided to seek more knowledge: about the materials they chose, about the drawings, about everything that could tell her story. What I got back was not only all the information I had asked for – but also an unexpected warmth. Mr. Johan Asplund asked me to send pictures, so that I could follow how the boat had developed and changed over all these years. He told me that if he were to ever travel to Italy, he would love to see Manuia again. It hasn't happened yet, but just the thought fills me with joy. Because I understand that he is a person who lives his work with love and passion, and who sees every boat he has built as a part of his own body and soul. My biggest dream would be to one day take her back to them for a complete renovation. I know that it is neither logistically nor financially within my reach, but if there was one place where I could say: “Do as you wish – I completely trust your judgment”, it is at this particular shipyard.
