1/6-21 Tidig morgon när ni precis öppnat så ringer sambon in till er med svåra magsmärtor. Hon beskriver det som kraftiga smärtor i övre högra delen av magen. …
1/6-21 Early morning when you have just opened your door, your partner calls you with severe stomach pain. She describes it as severe pain in the upper right part of your stomach. And that it has come and gone in periods since giving birth for about 3 months. Whereupon the district nurse immediately agrees that it is "certainly" something muscular. And of course, that sounds reasonable to a person with a medically untrained ear. And she immediately prescribes, without a favor of goodwill, to ask her to come in and take some tests and visit a physiotherapist instead. So it will be a booked visit a week in advance with a physiotherapist. From a person who grossly overestimates her own competence and practically "guessed" a diagnosis over the phone. The evening comes and the pain doesn't go away so we go to the emergency room after calling 1177. We stay there during the evening until early morning when my partner and daughter are admitted. So she has her entire gallbladder filled with gallstones and stones stuck in the bile duct, as well as jaundice. So it will be an operation. Of course, none of this could have been prevented, but from what my ignorant and uneducated medical knowledge tells me, there is quite a lot in a stomach that can go wrong. That a district nurse sits and even guesses on the other end of the phone on a tired morning is, frankly, too bad. I have always believed that in the medical world, you rely entirely on facts, through tests and checks. I hope that you who took the call this morning examine yourself, take a step back and don't naively believe that your competence is higher and better than it is. By making a probable diagnosis via a conversation and not checks and tests that you are hopefully trained to do, I can only hope that you will take your job more seriously next time.
