Our Arctic voyage on the MS Stockholm with Polar Quest delivered some unforgettable moments — world-class scenery, rare wildlife sightings, and excellent guiding from Ely. The intimacy of sailing with just five other guests was special, and the food and birthday celebration onboard were highlights. However, several issues reduced the overall experience. Our cabin, positioned directly against the engine room, had constant noise and occasional diesel odor; moving wasn’t truly an option, as the two empty guest cabins were already occupied by guides. One evening’s dinner service coincided with heavy swells — more than half the guests became seasick and no alternative meal was offered. Wi-Fi was restricted to one text for guests, yet we observed crew, cadets, and guides using it daily; in today’s expedition cruising, reliable basic connectivity has become an expected standard. We were also never addressed by name, which felt surprising for such a small group, and with one guide absent for much of the trip, the promised two-guide, two-Zodiac setup only happened on a few days. The Arctic itself was spectacular, but the combination of operational and hospitality gaps means we would only recommend this trip once these areas are addressed. With improvements, the MS Stockholm could deliver an experience as exceptional as its destination.
