Recently, a day was organized for first-year students at Stedelijk Gymnasium Arnhem and their parents to familiarize themselves with the new school year and share information. We went with high expectations, and it was quite exciting for both me and my child, because so many major changes occur when a child moves from primary to secondary school. I must say, I already deeply regret allowing my child to go to SGA. On the first day, I experienced some discrimination/insults as a parent, even from two teachers. So, I'm very worried about what our children will learn there, how they will be treated, and what they will experience on a daily basis. I had a small question about the photo I had to submit for my school/student ID, and I politely asked a teacher who was chatting and giggling with another teacher. While waiting, I asked them when they were quiet for a moment and looked at us, "May I ask you something?" She looked at me and another parent standing next to me with the same question and no answer. Out of respect, we waited until she had finished chatting and giggling with the other teacher so we could ask our question. I thought it wasn't polite to talk in between, especially since the teachers were there that day to assist parents with any questions about school, etc. After waiting for 10 minutes, there was still no answer. They just ignored us and continued laughing and talking to the other teacher. We simply left without any response, and the teachers gave us nasty looks like, "Can't you see we're still talking? Go away." What am I supposed to think of Stedelijk Gymnasium? I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT MY CHILD!! If teachers treat people like this, what are they teaching us children?
