Review is a summary of my 2022 and 2026 visits. I had Gan Shao in 2022, and is till date the best Chinese dish I had in Sweden. The sauces, the fish and the balance was perfect. In 2026, we ordered: 1. Veg dumplings: Did their job, filling wasn't bad but wasn't memorable either. 2. Böndens bönost: The tofu just melted in mouth, and went nicely with the soy-based sauce. The best dish we had that day. 3. Ekkorfisk : Absolute disaster in terms of taste. Sweetness was so overpowering that we had to mix it with rice and remaining soy sauce to swallow it. Gös was fried properly but it was killed by the sauce. 4. Apelsin kyckling: Tasted nice. 5. Chinese mooncake : Too hard and cold, tasted below average. They need to improve the pain areas, replace terrible dishes with new ones, and try to taste sauces before serving them.
*March 2022* Cross the small, wooden bridge (max 3.5 ton), and immediately on the left is the parking space. It has a 6 - 8 km of round trip walking. IMHO, only the first 3-3.5km(one-way) is worth it, till you reach a shore of Mörköfjärden, then return to the parking. If you proceed further west, you might have to walk through marshes, often having cow dung scattered. The route I took: Parking - take left - Grönvik - Kättsö - parking. This was around 6km. You pass by most of the farms on this island - Fridhem, Gullberga, Harburen. You also get good views of the islands Björkholmen, Vassklubben, and Lilla Lindskär. Keep an eye on the orange marks made on trees, and rocks, these will guide you on the trail.

We rented a caravan/husbil for a week. We got a 2024 model. The rent felt a bit on the higher side but I believe it was worth it. The staff was friendly and efficient. Their boutique is also a good place for beginners. The only surprise was that when we booked, we visited a caravan that had an isofix for child seat but the one we actually got didn't have any ! I do have one expectation from them - include the exterior washing/utvändig tvätt in the price. In other words, they should expect the tenants to clean the interiors but not the external because: 1. The height of the caravan makes it a bit tricky for shorter people like us to wash it. 2. A lot of insects hit the vehicle and die. The waste is accumulated in a defilade between the roof and the windshield. It is nearly impossible to reach it for cleaning. 3. Generally, a rental vehicle in Europe is NOT expected to be washed and cleaned from the outside. Given the price, I think it is a fair expectation from the customers. Overall, it is a reliable place to rent a caravan.
Another excellent naturrum in Sweden. It shared considerable information about fishes found in the area(river, lake). It is also one of the places with good birdwatching opportunities. One of the staff members, Sussie, explained with enthusiasm about the cranes that visit the vattenriket area between mid-April and mid-May. Their changing display of fishes found in the area is an easy way to impart information. The restaurant on the second level is value for money, also the view is nice. The Opteryx experience is exciting for the kids, not much for the adults. There are two short hiking trails in the area. Overall, I highly recommend it.
It focuses more on the birds, and the evolution of Tåkern area. I liked the binoculars that help to observe the birds closely. The display that helps to identify the sounds of the birds is a good start for beginners. My kid loved the two short guided tours about insects living in the woods, and in the water. There are hiking trails around, their bird observation tower is large enough for a group. There was tea/coffee but some eatables would have helped. It takes quite sometime to thoroughly visit the naturrum, and take a walk around. I highly recommend it.
Efficient service, pretty close to the beach, separate toilets and showers for men and women, also unisex available. Two improvements would enhance the experience: - Slightly larger play areas. The current ones are too small to accommodate the no. of kids that are present at the site. - The service house can be expanded to have a kitchen.

The overall area of this station is small as compared to the number of pumping stations. It gets crowded quickly, and once you have filled up the fuel, it is difficult to drive out. The electric charging station is too close to the pumps, and the cars wanting to enter that area are blocked by petrol ones.

Dated review(April 2024) First, I would like to thank the owner(an elderly Swedish gentleman) who allowed us to visit the tower in spite of being closed for the season. The view is mesmerizing and soothing. They have a small image marking nearby towns by the lake. There are several photos explaining the history of the tower. There are some miniature houses on display, I liked those. There is a cafe, mini golf but both were closed(would reopen in summer). The houses located on the hill(around 70m high) are a pleasant view.
It is a nice vantage point - Björns fyr to the left(north), Baltics to the south and east. I didn't see any birds around but the info. boards mentioned several species arriving here in Spring and leave during Autumn. There is a grill place, a bio-toilet, and a cottage where one can stay in case of emergencies, for max. 2 nights. This point is at a walkable distance(around 700mt) from the parking.
The walk from the parking to the promontory is approximately 3.5km(one-way) and 99% is on a gravel road. This makes it boring and a bit irritating for the feet. One can skip some part of this by taking a left to the Klyxenstingen, walking in the woods, viewing a lake(I couldn't make it there while returning as the daylight was fading and I was exhausted after a long day), following Nordklyxen and finally rejoining the gravel road. There are some houses on the right, and the shore is on the left. Then a public toilet and firewood is available. Note that this is the last point where one can bring a stroller/pram. The pathway is then full of cobblestones and sand, and sometimes walking is difficult if you don't have good shoes. The view at the promontory is mesmerizing - Gävle coastline to the north, sea to the east and Hållnäs to the west. There is grill place here. I suggest to reserve at least 4h if you wish to utilize the promontory and views for relaxation. Carry lunch and coffee, or grill something.
Park here if you want to park for a day or so. Note that the vantage point is slightly longer from here as compared to the approach from pryssgården(it lacks official parking).
The tower is fairly 'new', hence, one doesn't get any memorable historical information. My primary reason of rating it high is the clarity it provides in terms of geology and geography: - They have marked all directions, also provided brief information about sights in each direction. - It gives clear view of two tabletop mountains which are defining feature of surroundings.
I would have rated it lower but a brief guided tour motivated me to give one more star. I have been to several naturrumer in Sweden and this one is least engaging (perhaps, the other rooms have set a higher bar). - It is small as most of its space is dedicated to the restaurant and the hotel. - The information boards are verbose and feel more as an advertisement. - Absolutely no attempt to build a story about anything e.g. Vänern. If one takes some extra efforts, one might understand a bit about Vänern's evolution but overall the place lacks a soul.
Value for money - compact but perfect cottage, close to beach, pretty close to the Göta kanal. The elderly couple that runs the place are efficient. If one has plans to cycle by the Göta kanal in Borensberg - Berg stage, it is an ideal location.
Note that the current location(by the vandrarhem/hostel) is incorrect(I submitted an edit, accepted but not applied). If one faces the canal, on your left would be the hostel's washroom/service house while on the right would be a similar house where the exhibition is kept. One needs to go to the Mallboden's reception, pay SEK 50, and take a service card. Use it to enter the exhibition house. It is value for money! They have made an excellent attempt to provide an overview of Göta canal's history. Two short films, and the characterization of the prominent figures is helpful for enthusiasts to understand history briefly.
Update: July 2024. I revisited after one year, and bought some juices, 'must' and jams. They have quite good prices for the variety. I had a bit exasperating experience today with a girl on the billing counter. I had shopped aplenty bottles, and was worried about carrying them for 200+km in car. I asked her if I can pickup one of the empty wooden crates. She said that I have to buy it for SEK 120. I gave up but I saw she gave away smaller wooden crates for free to at least 2 other families. I didn't want a large one, just enough to hold the bottles upright. I have been to several such places and for that amount of shopping, they happily offered me larger crates for free. Here, I felt a bit discriminated, hence, reducing one star. **************************** The shop has a considerable variety of condiments, apple juice, and motley items ranging from chocolate to pasta. One might learn a bit about the musteri in the guided tours, the overall place is small and not as informative as others. The restaurant closes at 1600 hours but I expected the cafe to be open. Tip: They have a guided tour every Wednesday at 1400 hours in summers.
Ascend/descend boats by about 4 metre. I got a chance to view 3 boats ascending(headed south east) two gates.
Quaint shop, welcoming personnel. I couldn't find souvenirs matching my taste but I did find some flavours of fruit 'must' which I hadn't tried before.
It's a museum where people like me experience a 'information overload'. It covers several aspects like radio communications, century-wise evolvement of armed forces, types of infantry and cavalry weapons (ranging from canons to handheld firearms), and some parts of modern armed forces. We spent only a couple of hours here as the museum wasn't on our original itinerary. If you wish to visit, reserve an entire day. The washrooms were out of order, had to use a mobile washroom which had no lights.
An easy walk/run. The round-trip distance from parking(boat club) is a little over 3km. One can easily take a pram/stroller. Some bits of interesting information can be found by the way. A washroom is available at the end of trail, along with some public lawn where around a 100 persons were relaxing. The path doesn't really live up to the term 'strandpromenad'. Most of it is either within woods or quite far from water. There are no real beaches, only two, small bathing places which are overwhelmed by people.
I have visited several nature rooms in Sweden and I rate this as the best, till date. They have extensive information ranging from forests to meteors, animals to clouds. I could spend an entire day just absorbing that. The topmost point of the tower provides an enchanting view of the lake Siljan and the surrounding landscape. The binocular placed on the topmost point has a range of 70km. They have provided direction-wise plotting of visible places. A must-visit if one is visiting Dalarna.

Heads-up: - It is a tiny museum with only 3-4 planes, and few artifacts. - The space is barely sufficient to walk around freely, can be difficult if crowded. - It is essential that you know Swedish well as 75% of information is in Swedish. The personnel can help you to some extent by translating to English. The app doesn't render information in English. The flight simulator here is perhaps the main attraction. Ensure you book well in advance as the slots are mostly filled up quickly. I ain't into flight simulators but my friend who has previous experience with those wasn't impressed. IMHO, it's good if you are an absolute beginner. Note that the entry to the museum is free if one buys the flight simulator for 30min, else you can pay(lesser) just for the museum entry. I liked the section about balloon reconnaissance. The Spitfire engine on display also was a happy moment for me. The parking space is equivalent to the size of the museum, so try to be early. If you live in Nyköping or around, or are going to visit Skavsta airport, it is worth visiting. It doesn't fully justify driving there from a far off place.
The most reliable utility shop in Södertälje. From jackets to torch lights, there are aplenty options at reasonable prices. Whether it's a screwdriver set or gardening material, you find it here. During the summer time, you can occasionally get good camping utilities. I bought several airlines check-in bags over past few years, the quality has been good.
It is a loveable experience, especially if the weather is sunny and optimally warm. The sights of tree canopies, rapseed and wheat fields are charming. Some reviews are misguiding - one cannot get a view of Vättern anywhere along the entire (Vädstena - Fågelsta) stretch. Tips for visitors: - Safety first - our draisine was derailed once but I anticipated it and we all were alert. The operators told us that few weeks ago, a girl got 7-8 stiches on her arms and forehead due to riding fast and getting derailed. Watch out for the railtrack joints(where two track pieces are welded together). These are hotspots for derailment if you are at a high speed. - Best views are between Aska and Fågelsta. - There is no cafe at either Aksa or Fågelsta. Carry your own food and water. - Fågelsta station (!) is nothing more than a benches and the Railtrack ends there. There also wasn't any shade, so don't rely on having a good fika at Fågelsta. It is better to turn around, and have a lunch /fika at Aska. - In case you don't get enough bookings/slots, one team can start from Vädstena while the others can drive to Aska or Fågelsta. The riding and driving teams can switch.
They have a fridge full of their products, especially the goat milk products. It is pleasant to see a herd of billy goats. We couldn't visit the cultivated land as it was perhaps not for visitors. The area is quite small, it is more like a family farm.
Spacious, clean, location is convent. Made a mistake by ordering rödspetta. It was the worst I had till date - lack of salt, baked/fried partially, and the sauce was below average but I paid SEK 170 for it! Avoid this dish, give a shot at pizza.
Note: Review based on experiences between July 2018 - July 2022. I am unaware of the latest developments. I have been here several times, even camped one night. In spite of being a bit small in width(at least I felt so), the oak trees are a pleasant sight. If you wish to view woodpeckers in action, or hear the voices of birds(I dunno exactly which!) living in the marshes, it is a good place. There are two fireplaces which are located by the water. The Södertälje Kustleden almost ends/starts here which makes it an important entry/exit point for hikers. Needless to say, it is located quite near(1.8km) from a bus stop and parking lot. The nearby boat club, and some machines running overnight in the houses on the other shore create aplenty noise. There is lot of cow dump, and almost no flat surface to pitch a tent so camp accordingly.
We relished the (Fish N' Chips) and burgers. The staff(probably, youngsters working summer jobs) was polite and efficient. The location is close to the fyr/lighthouse so one can first take a guided tour at 1100 hours, and then have lunch here.

Been here in 2020, revisited today. Clear water, suitable for kids, and adults. The nearby stall selling waffles was open this time, not bad at all. There are 3 washrooms, and a shower as well but they close for general public around 1800 hours. Note that the entrance for cars is via Södertuna slot - Kattnäs kyrka.
Some seats, enough parking, a toilet, and mini play area. The length is short, there are aplenty plant shoots in the water. The beach gets quickly crowded.

This can be tricky since the road from the main road to Nordsätern barely accommodates one car.

A good pitstop for drivers headed towards Mora and further. Good staff, clean toilets, fresh bakery products and also some auto essentials (they can keep better ice scrapers).
My review is limited to vegetarian food , that we ordered. Customized Mozzarella pizza was unimpressive in taste. Pasta, we tasted a spoonful and had to discard - didn't even have the minimum salt, the sauce was below average.
