I will never again pick up my medicines or buy anything at this Pharmacy. It is very, very rare that I have experienced immigrant discrimination in Sweden in my 18 years living in the country. And this time at DOZ Pharmacy in Norrtälje was one of those few times. Namely, I misunderstood the question asked to me by a middle-aged clerk, about 60 years old (I half-listened, honestly, was a bit in my own world) and immediately after I discovered that I answered the question incorrectly, I kindly apologized and said it was my fault. What did she do? She clearly got irritated with me with a comment, something like: "You don't know how to express yourself for "people" to understand, you speak real Swedish and yet people don't understand" - like you stupid immigrants don't understand no matter how you express yourself. I am an immigrant but I don't feel that I am "people" who don't destroy - have studied at a University in Sweden in SWEDISH (in addition to my previous University education from my home country which is in Europe), have actually become the best in the class (everyone else in the group has been born Swedes), work daily with thousands of sensitive financial tasks where understanding the Swedish language is a requirement and have never experienced that any CEO or employee from the largest Swedish companies has had difficulty expressing themselves in a way that I understand. So, next time before you give yourself the right to express any comment about "stupid immigrants" try to think about whether you yourself know a single word from any other language or a single word from the immigrant's native language.
