Scam – avoid this garage When my car started making strange noises, it was obvious – even to someone like me, who knows nothing about cars – that something was wrong. It sounded like something had happened to the exhaust system. I called my insurance company and got roadside assistance. The guy who came lifted the car up and said that the problem was at the front of the exhaust system, at the manifold, which had come loose. That was what was causing the noise. I asked if it was a big job and he said it should cost a couple of thousand kronor, no more. He drove the car to Mekonomen in Majorna, where they said they would bring the car in and call me the next day to tell me what needed to be done. I made it clear that they were not allowed to do anything until they had spoken to me. The next morning I got a call – without any proper explanation – where they simply said it would cost 7,000 kronor to fix the problem. It sounded strange, because the insurance guy had said the day before that it wasn't a big job. I got suspicious and told them not to do anything, that I needed to think. I went down to the garage where the mechanic I had spoken to the day before came out. I asked if there was really that much wrong with the car. "Yes", he said. According to him, the exhaust system was "completely broken" all the way back from the catalytic converter. But I had seen that part the day before - it was in perfect condition. That's when I realized they were trying to scam me. I went in, got my key and left. They also tried to charge me to "look at the car", even though they had never informed me of any such fee - neither the day before, by text message, email or verbally. I refused to pay. I drove the car to another mechanic in Gothenburg. He looked at it right away and said he could fix the entire problem – and a broken lamp and a bracket that the first workshop had not put back – for a total of 1,600 kronor. The workshop in Majorna wanted 7,000 kronor for a job that cost 1,600 kronor to do correctly. Completely unserious and completely unreliable. Don't trust them. Don't use this workshop. Save yourself a lot of money and trouble. I absolutely cannot recommend them. A truly fraudulent behavior.
