Red Haven Cottage

We spent a week this summer in one of the accommodations advertised as "villas." Unfortunately, the description didn't match the reality. The houses are older homes converted for vacation use—a comparison with modern Swedish holiday homes isn't possible here. The crooked floor plan and the many small rooms didn't meet our expectations. The noticeable musty smell rising from the basement into the house was particularly unpleasant. Unfortunately, we also discovered numerous functional defects: broken outlets, loose switches, and broken lights. Furthermore, ventilation shafts had been temporarily taped over. We found the operator's response to put the fixes for these problems on a "fall list" unsatisfactory. The complex itself is fine, but doesn't appear fully renovated. A visual upgrade would be desirable, for example, by replacing the dull metal fences around the houses with more attractive wooden ones. Finally, the operator's organization seemed unprofessional: We were forgotten to be informed about an important appointment (chimney sweep). The surprise and uncertainty when the chimney sweep suddenly appeared at the door were unnecessary. Overall, the accommodation and service did not live up to our expectations.

We couldn't have imagined a more beautiful place for our last days on our trip to Sweden. The tastefully and lovingly restored cottages, the cozy main house with a veranda, the small but charming self-service shop in the village, and the diverse opportunities for outdoor adventures make us long for Red Haven Cottage. The warm welcome and the pleasant evening in front of the fireplace with the owner were not to be taken for granted. Västervik is only 45 minutes away, and Bullerbyn is 1 hour away.

Me and my family lived there for a night while visiting the area for a party. Excellent room, great service and the breakfast was also very good. The ladies who ran the place were pleasant and spoke good english. The area is beautiful and the house is located across the road from a big church. Over all an excellent place to visit, thanks!
