The runestone previously stood at Flastad Church, the ruins of which lie a couple of kilometres from Skokloster Church. The inscription reads: "Andvätt and Gullev and Gunnar and Horse and Rolev had the stone erected after Tord, their father. Fot carved the runes." The runemaster Fot is known from several runestones in Uppland and was active in the latter part of the 11th century. The ornamentation and language clearly place the stone in the Uppland runestone environment during the Christian era. The Tord mentioned in the inscription cannot be identified with any known historical person in preserved contemporary sources. The name was common during the period, and there is no reliable evidence that he had any particular political or royal function. In older genealogical tradition, runestones in Uppland have sometimes been linked to the so-called Bureätten, a family that from the 17th century onwards was traced back to the Middle Ages through extensive genealogical investigations. These genealogies, especially those compiled during the great power period, however, contain elements that cannot be verified by contemporary medieval source material. A certain connection between the current runestone and the Bure family is therefore not established. The runestone should primarily be understood as a local Christian memorial from the 11th century, erected by sons in memory of their father – an expression of family, status and faith in late Viking-era Uppland.
