Tvärred's church was built in the mid-19th century when the old church, located on a site closer to Lake Åsunden - today a ruin, was in a dilapidated condition. The church is relatively large, although a few decades ago two small rooms were built at the bottom of the church room under the gallery. It is said that the outer dimensions of Gällstad's church were used as measurements to determine the inner dimensions of Tvärred's church. According to former priest Per-Olof Sjögren, there are also exciting similarities in the dimensions between Solomon's Temple and Tvärred's church. Visitors should note the baptismal font, which is very old. For perhaps a century after the former church (now a church ruin) was taken out of use, the baptismal font was used as fill in a fence near Lake Åsunden before it was found and returned first to the museum in Gothenburg and then to Tvärred's church. Visitors should be aware that there is no toilet in the church. The nearest toilet is in the parish hall.
