Nestled in the heart of the Västernorrland wilderness lies the Vändåtberget Nature Reserve. From the free parking area, a narrow bridge leads into this natural paradise. You're instantly immersed in the wilderness and nature, as if a switch has been flipped. No civilization, no noise, just the sensory experiences of nature. The Vändåtberget Nature Reserve also boasts the most wonderful cabin imaginable. Hikers are welcome to stay overnight here free of charge. The sturdy cabin features a bunk bed with two single beds, and even pillows and blankets are provided. There's also a veranda overlooking the lake, and plenty of firewood for the barbecue or the wood-burning stove in the living room. Visitors leave behind all sorts of little things: candles, instant soups, and so on. But even if you don't stay overnight, it's still fun to read the guestbook. Otherwise, the area offers excellent hiking, and you'll be amazed at how peaceful it is. It's almost eerie or meditative, because you only very rarely hear birds. This nature reserve is also not wheelchair accessible, so you definitely need sturdy footwear and shouldn't be afraid of mosquitoes. The little pests are certainly looking forward to your visit.
