We were prescribed two medications by a veterinarian and just two days later our 15-year-old dog started showing very strange symptoms. He couldn't stand properly and fell. We therefore immediately stopped the medications to rule out a side effect and went to Kämpaslätten. Upon arrival, my daughter was greeted very nicely by the reception staff. I really want to give her praise – the treatment at the reception was professional and friendly. Unfortunately, the experience with the veterinarian was completely different. When we told her that we had stopped the medication, we were met with incomprehension. The veterinarian said that the medication could not cause the symptoms we described. Instead, he claimed that our dog was in pain and therefore did not want to stand on its hind legs. He spoke of wear and tear and osteoarthritis – something that our dog does not show any signs of in everyday life. Furthermore, these types of illnesses do not occur overnight, which is something that a veterinarian should be aware of. Despite this, he wanted to prescribe painkillers for a problem that we did not perceive existed. When I questioned his reasoning, as I know my dog ​​very well and did not see any signs of pain, the vet became noticeably irritated and said: “Go to another hospital!” At home, we looked for information ourselves and found that the symptoms were very likely consistent with intermittent vestibular syndrome – a condition that is often transient. Indeed, our dog was completely recovered just a few days later. He was running, playing and jumping as usual again and is now back on the medication that was originally prescribed for the urinary leakage without any problems. It is worrying that a vet wants to prescribe medication for pain and osteoarthritis so quickly without clear clinical signs, and also reacts with irritation when you as a pet owner ask questions. At the same time, I would like to emphasize once again that the reception staff provided a very good service.
