Perhaps the most unnerving visit to a vet clinic, ever. My healthy horse was scheduled for a CT scan. We were simply looking for a possible source of mild pain when jumping. I arrive, checked in, and was greeted politely by the receptionist, and asked what I imagine are routine questions, among which, "Does your horse have any issues with general anesthetic?" In hind sight this question should have warned me of possible trouble, but what did I know at that moment??? I am not a vet. Then I had to go weigh my horse myself, write down his weight on his halter tag, and leave him in a box. At no time did I meet a vet or any other vet. practitioner. They did not check him in my presence to see his health status when I dropped him off. He was super fine, by the way. No pain anywhere. Long story shorter, in spite of knowing that some horses have difficult and therefore dangerous recoveries, they did not have any supporting ropes around him ready to stabilize him as he woke up in a panic and proceeded to hurt himself. So I now have a horse in worse condition with a long recovery ahead of him. Loss of time, money, and peace of mind. I know that accidents happen, but what really, really ticks me off, is that we horse owners are constantly vigilant about possible dangers, removing hooks from walls, sticks and stones from paths, taking off halters in pasture, etc. and this clinic, knowing the possible side effects, couldn't even do the minimum of having security rigging for recovery. You should be ashamed of that.
