We have been coming to this place for many years, every time we visit Uppsala — and we travel all the way from Canada just to enjoy it! The star of the show for us is the Wallenbergare, which is truly the best we've tried anywhere. The flavor profile and the texture are absolutely perfect and better than most of the places in Stockholm. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, with a unique character. The building was once a dungeon, and it still retains charming nooks and hidden corners that make the space feel special and intimate. The drinks selection is excellent, and there's a house-made lingonberry drink that is absolutely fantastic — definitely ask for it. We also always start with their Toast Skagen, a delicious appetizer that has become a tradition for us. A word of advice: the Wallenbergare is only served at lunchtime, so plan your visit accordingly. Since our time in Uppsala is always limited, we make a point to book in advance, and I highly recommend others do the same — this place fills up quickly. The staff are wonderful: friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which adds so much to the overall experience. If you're in Uppsala, this spot is a must-visit. We look forward to returning every time we're in town!

We made a reservation for the julbord and were very excited to try the Japanese twist on the traditional julbord. We’ve dined in the restaurant before and loved the experience, which made us even more eager to come back for this special evening. The buffet itself was excellent — the variety was impressive and everything was delicious. The sushi and sashimi were absolute highlights. The warm dishes and meats were good, though not as memorable as the seafood. The cocktails were fantastic, and the sake tasting was a real treat. The information shared during the tasting added a lot to the experience. Unfortunately, the service was noticeably low and quite disorganized. We arrived before the group seated next to us, yet their drink order was taken much earlier than ours. No one explained to us where to go to get food, leaving us sitting awkwardly for a while. Throughout the evening, no one came to check on us — surprising, especially since the area wasn’t busy. Considering there is a 500 kr/person ($80 CAD per person) cancellation penalty, we expected a much more attentive and well-organized experience. We were also seated at a communal table with another group — initially two people and then a third who joined. They were loud and discussing topics that didn’t fit the romantic date night we had planned. The group mentioned that they didn’t even have a reservation and just walked in, which made our seating situation even more disappointing given that we had booked in advance. The note mentioned “Izakaya,” but that doesn’t automatically mean shared seating — even izakayas in Japan offer private tables — so we didn’t anticipate being placed with strangers. We’ve been to many julbords over the years as we travel very frequently to Sweden, and not once have we been seated at a communal table. It was the first time, and unfortunately it negatively affected the experience. Overall, while the food and drinks were very good, the disorganized service and unexpected communal seating significantly took away from what we hoped would be a special evening.

We have been coming to this wonderful place for many years, every time we visit Sweden, and it has truly become a cherished tradition for us. In many ways, it feels like an Uppsala institution — a spot that locals and visitors alike return to for its charm, warmth, and consistency. We love the inviting atmosphere, the excellent coffee, and the delicious ice cream. While the pastries and food don’t quite hit the mark for us personally, we still really appreciate the care and presentation that go into them. The decor is lovely, and the entire area feels peaceful and relaxing. There are many different seating options, all of which are cozy and thoughtfully arranged. The staff are consistently friendly and welcoming, which adds so much to the overall experience. One of our favorite times to visit is during the Christmas season. We especially enjoy seeing the charming marzipan creations shaped like Santas, gnomes, and various animals — they’re both adorable and impressive, and they make wonderful souvenirs or gifts. Overall, this is a place we always look forward to returning to, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a cozy atmosphere, excellent coffee, and a touch of Swedish charm.

From their beautiful swimming pools to their soothing saunas and relaxation areas, there are plenty of ways to unwind and enjoy the experience. During our visit, we booked both a massage and a facial, and each treatment was wonderfully soothing, professional, and deeply relaxing. The food and drinks offered on-site were also excellent, adding to the overall sense of comfort and indulgence. The entire space is extremely clean, well maintained, and thoughtfully organized. From the moment you arrive, everything feels calm and harmonious — a perfect setting for slowing down and recharging. The staff are consistently warm, welcoming, and attentive, which enhances the experience even more. As international travellers, availability can sometimes be a challenge, especially during peak days. However, with advance booking, everything tends to go smoothly. Overall, Sturebadet AB is a wonderful place to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy a moment of pure wellbeing.

It’s the place where we stock up on all our favourites, from seasonal decorations to Swedish snacks and food items that we miss or want to try. Visiting the store has become part of the excitement of arriving in Uppsala. The store is always neatly organized, bright, and spacious, which makes it easy to find exactly what we’re looking for. They offer a huge selection across so many categories: fresh produce, baked goods, prepared meals, home décor, holiday items, and a wide range of Swedish classics. It’s one of those places where you can quickly pick up essentials but also easily find new things you didn’t know you wanted. The layout is intuitive, the aisles are wide, and the selection is consistently impressive. Every visit feels enjoyable rather than rushed, and we always leave with something fun, delicious, or beautifully seasonal. Maxi ICA Stormarknad Gnista has truly become part of our travel routine — a place we look forward to visiting whenever we’re in Uppsala.

We booked a julbord during our trip to Sweden, and having enjoyed many julbords over the years—more than a dozen across different regions and settings—I can say this one felt exceptionally relaxed, tasty and genuinely authentic. The atmosphere was peaceful, and the softly lit dining room created a cozy, welcoming sense of comfort that set the tone for a wonderful evening. The selection of dishes was extensive, and everything we tried was flavorful. The herring varieties were outstanding, especially the herring with rum, mustard and the herb-marinated herring. The meatballs were impressively juicy—something not all julbords manage—and the deer was tender, succulent, and pleasantly mild without any gamey notes. The Jansson’s Temptation was probably one of my favorite versions to date. We asked for a local snaps, which was the perfect way to begin the meal, and the house wine paired nicely with the dishes. The only thing I would have liked is the option of alcoholic glögg at the start, but this is a small detail and certainly not a drawback. The staff member who assisted us was warm, very kind , and contributed greatly to the welcoming atmosphere. The surroundings were beautiful, and the décor added to the charm and sense of calm. We would definitely return the next time we are in Sweden—whether to stay, dine, or enjoy another memorable julbord.

We have stayed at Villa Anna in Uppsala multiple times over the years, and it has consistently been a lovely and memorable experience. The first time we visited was in 2022, and since then we have returned whenever we’ve had the chance. Each time, we got a beautifully designed suite featuring a separate bedroom, a charming living room, a spacious bathroom with a large bathtub, and a private ensuite sauna. The views from the room were always delightful, and the thoughtful interior design made our stays exceptionally comfortable. Breakfast, however, has felt somewhat underwhelming. While they offer a small buffet and à la carte options, the overall selection is more limited compared to many other hotels across Sweden. It certainly isn’t bad, but it doesn’t quite reach the same high standard set by the rest of the hotel experience. One year, we joined Villa Anna for their julbord, and that was a highlight — festive, fun, and genuinely memorable. Parking is attached to the hotel building, which is convenient, but the number of spaces is very limited. This has been an issue for us during high season or weekends, when securing a spot can be quite difficult. The staff deserve special praise: they have always been warm, welcoming, and extremely helpful. Our only major concern is the hotel’s operational schedule. Villa Anna closes quite often throughout the year, which makes planning a stay more challenging than we would like. Despite these few inconveniences, Villa Anna remains one of our favourite places to stay in Sweden.

We visited this café after hearing good things about their pastries, especially the cardamom bun. The space itself is really charming—clean, cozy, and inviting—and the staff were warm and welcoming, which made for a pleasant first impression. Unfortunately, the cardamom bun we picked up to go didn’t quite live up to the expectations. It was surprisingly dry and lacked the aromatic cardamom flavor we were hoping for. Given the buzz around the place, we were expecting a bit more from the pastry. That said, the overall atmosphere and service were great, and it’s possible we just caught the bun on an off day.

This store offers a beautifully curated selection of Japanese items, including food products like ramen, dashi, sauces, and snacks, as well as stationery, incense and incense holders, teapots, and chopsticks. It’s a unique gem in Uppsala that provides an authentic glimpse into Japanese culture. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, and each product feels thoughtfully selected. For a moment, you’re transported beyond Sweden, thanks to the store’s careful attention to detail. While the prices are on the higher side, the uniqueness and quality of the items make it well worth it. If you appreciate Japanese culture and craftsmanship, this shop is absolutely worth a visit.

This is one of our favorite places to stop by whenever we’re in Uppsala. We especially love visiting around Christmas to pick up their storybook advent calendar. They also have a great selection of cute stationery and nice books. The store is well-organized, making it easy to find what we need, and the staff are always very helpful. One thing we really hope for is that someday we’ll be able to buy a Pelle Svanslös plush toy there. We always find plenty of wonderful books about him — it would be so nice to see soft toys of this iconic Uppsala character as well!

Had a delicious dinner here with stunning views of the water and Norrmalm. We had a reservation and sat outside on the deck, right on the water, which made the experience extra special. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The place was quite busy, which explained the slower service, but thanks to the lovely atmosphere and beautiful surroundings, the wait didn’t bother us at all. We ordered seafood pasta and meatballs — both dishes were very tasty, though we found the portions a bit on the smaller side. The drinks were fantastic and complemented the meal perfectly. Overall, Ångbåtsbryggan is a wonderful spot to unwind, enjoy delicious food and drinks, and soak in the seaside vibe.

We visited Ascaro Padel & Social Club, where we only used the bar area rather than the padel courts. The space is beautifully designed — a stylish rooftop featuring a shallow decorative pool surrounded by comfortable seating. The pool creates a refreshing and sophisticated atmosphere. The staff were friendly, and the drinks were both delicious and beautifully presented. The area felt peaceful and calm, making it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. We went on a weekday afternoon, so it was pleasantly quiet, but I can imagine it becomes much livelier on weekends or later in the day. Overall, it’s an inviting and thoughtfully designed rooftop venue that offers a great mix of elegance and laid-back charm.

We visited Kula Stockholm, an ice cream shop that makes its own fresh waffles in-house — you can even see the waffle machine inside, and the irresistible aroma fills the entire space. They offer a wide variety of ice creams and sorbets with creative flavors. We tried a scoop of saffron & honey, which was absolutely outstanding, and a scoop of white chocolate raspberry. While beautifully presented, the white chocolate raspberry felt a bit too heavy for our taste, and the raspberry flavor didn’t come through as clearly as we had hoped. We chose to have our ice cream in a cup, decorated with a crisp roll–style waffle and a flat circular waffle on top. Both were absolutely delicious and added a lovely texture and visual touch to the dessert. The shop offers a few indoor seats as well as window ledges outside where you can sit and enjoy views of Gamla Stan, creating a charming and relaxed atmosphere. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making it an enjoyable stop overall.

We stopped here for a quick lunch before our flight and appreciated the efficient setup. There are plenty of seating options, including some with partial runway views, which made the experience more pleasant. Ordering through the QR codes at the table was very convenient, and having photos of each dish helped us know exactly what to expect. We tried the shrimp sandwich and Swedish meatballs — both dishes arrived quickly and were delicious. The only downside was that the bathroom needed better maintenance; it was quite smelly and the trash basket needed attention. A great spot with a good view to grab a quick meal before your flight.

We have been visiting this restaurant every time we travel to this part of Sweden, and it has truly become a family favorite. We remember when it was an open space without the glass walls, and we’ve enjoyed seeing it evolve into the beautiful spot it is today. The addition of the glass walls has only enhanced the experience — now, rain, wind, or strong sun don’t matter at all. You can enjoy the stunning views of the river comfortably in any weather. The staff has consistently been kind and welcoming on every visit, which makes us feel right at home. We’ve enjoyed both drinks and food here many times. Some of our favorites include Tompen’s Räka, Grillad Entrecôte, hamburger, and the Fläskfilé. The Grillad Entrecôte is a particular highlight — the wine sauce reduction and garlic butter come together perfectly, and every time we’ve requested it medium rare, it has been cooked exactly as we like it. The burger is always a treat, and the fillet of pork with blue cheese sauce that I tried recently was a delicious surprise. Overall, this place has become a must-visit for us, and we always look forward to coming back on our next trip to Sweden.
