The Bishops Arms, Kungsgatan (Trollhättan)

I have been to Bishop's at least a dozen times since I moved to Sweden and it is extremely reliable. Very friendly and flexible service, wide beer (and even cask beer) selection, and solid opening hours. Also, it does a good job of simulating the British local pub feel with low volume/appropriate music and an easy going/informal atmosphere. Prices are on the high side reflecting that Bishop's Arms is part of a corporate chain with hotel connections all over Sweden. Don't expect happy hour prices as in some of the other pubs in the city. In addition, the only weak spot is the authenticity of the food. While definitely fresh and well prepared the menu lacks breadth of proper English/British pub favourites such as various pies, scampi, gammon, curry, pasties, sausage rolls, chip butty and so on. It does have fish and chips but sadly they serve thin American style fast food fries that you would find in a burger chain rather than properly hand cut thick British style chips and also no option for beef dripping for the chips which would add real authenticity at very low cost. The rest of the menu (burgers, Swedish pub fare and pasta dishes) is not really British pub food at all but more 'international bar/fast-casual fare). So don't expect British style pub/home cooking or authenticity when it comes to the food. That said, the food is perfectly passable if a little over priced. Stand out is the atmosphere, service and drinks selection. Recommend go there for your pints and banter as they are first class.

Very strange. Went on a Wednesday at ten past 9 pm and was told they were closed even if the sign outside said open until 23:00. Everyone was leaving. Fortunately I found an other place to get something to eat, and drink. Why close at 9 pm on a ”lillördag” ??? My second bad experience at this place.

Traditionell engelsk krog med bra dryckesurval och god mat. Nästan familjär stämning med massa stammisar.
